CfE Briefing for Parents - Information Leaflet
Education Scotland have produced a
leaflet entitled, 'Broad General Education in the Secondary School –
A Guide for Parents and Carers' that has frequently-asked questions
about the period of the broad general education including what
children learn and how their learning is assessed, understanding
their progress and making choices for qualifications.
The school will be holding a Parental
Study Support (PASS) Evening on Wednesday 27 November 2013 which all
parents are warmly invited to attend. More information can be
found in the
letter and return slip which was issued.

been issued to pupils, and
a copy can be found here. Please remember that if you
require an advance call in the event of a closure, this request

Beginning this academic year students in
Scotland will no longer sit the Standard Grade Qualifications in S4.
A new range of qualifications are being introduced which are known
as National 3, 4 and 5 (NAt3, Nat4 and Nat5). National 5 is
broadly equivalent to the academic demands of a Credit at Standard
Grade, a Nat 4 comparable to Standard Grade General, and Nat 3 to

of Scotland has produced 'Nationals in a Nutshell', a
range of valuable information sheets for Nat4 and Nat5 which provide
an overview of each qualification along with details of the skills
that will be developed, possible approaches to learning, and details
of the assessments which are required. Each guide also

Aberdeenshire Schools Referendum on Scottish Independence
A Referendum on Scottish Independence took place in
Alford Academy (and Aberdeenshire's other 16 secondary schools and
all 4 special schools) on 17 September. Counting was staged at
Meldrum Academy Games Hall on 18 September, a year to the day before
the whole of Scotland votes on the question of independence.
The pupils of both Alford and Aberdeenshire cast their votes in
favour of the 'Better Together' campaign, by a sizeable majority.
Academy student Stephen Will becomes the millionth audience member
at the National Theatre of Scotland
Stephen is a member of the Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA) Youth
Theatre and was part of a group booking to see the performance of

The new Campus draws closer
Alford Academy, Alford Primary, Alford Swimming Pool, and Alford
Community Learning and Development will be moving into a new Campus
in August 2015. Preparatory ground works have already begun
with the construction of the new link road which will service the
